"You can't help that. We're all mad here." - The Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland

This is what I've been up to lately. These are the Seaweed Socks in Lang Jawoll yarn. It's a self-striping yarn and the pattern doesn't come thru very well, but I like it anyway. I love the hand of the yarn. I have them on now, because it's warm and comfy.
I made homemade pizza last night. The recipes came from Martha Stewart's site. I used the pizza dough recipe which I will definitely use again, the dough is really good, made 2 pizza's. The dough is just yum. And then the sauce, well we were given some homegrown tomatoes and so decided to make a homemade sauce which took time but was so simple to make. You dip the tomatoes in boiling water for maybe 30 seconds, peel, core and deseed, cut up into 1/4 inch dice. Then I heated some olive oil, put in about 4 or 5 whole garlic cloves and roasted them for about 10 minutes in the oil. Then you add the tomatoes, increase the heat and simmer for about 15 minutes, I actually simmered for about 30 minutes to reduce the juice and get to a sauce consistency. I added salt and pepper and about a 1/2 tsp. ground oregano. Then on the pizza dough i added a little olive oil on top to keep the sauce from making the dough soggy. Then add the sauce, sliced mozzarella and fresh basil. We topped with a sprinkling of herbs d'provence on one and salt on the other. They only cook for 12 minutes in a hot 500 degree oven and we put in a pizza stone too. I touched the rack by accident and got a nice burn on my hand. I put ice water on it, ice and aloe, but it has a nice blister on it this morning. But no pain.
These are homemade Crescent Rolls. I got the recipe from Cook's Country magazine. These are another keeper. The dough was really nice and it's isn't hard to make, it just takes time.
Here's another pair of socks I completed. It's the year of the sock for me. I think I've made 10 pairs so far.
Mamacita is making us waffles for breakfast! A nice treat. Have a great Sunday.

Happy Sunday!

Well, The Blog Cafe has shut down and they say they sent me an email to let me know to backup all the images but I didn't get it, I think they sent it to my work email which is why I never got it. And they deleted the photo images, which seems really rude, but whatever, so I got down to trying to create my own blog design and this is what I've come up with so far. I think I like it. But I still have a lot to do so bear with me.

We went to the chili cook off yesterday and it was a lot of fun. I went to work in the kitchen, helping to get stuff together and clean, etc. I knew it'd be a lot of work, but I also had a great time. My feet were killing me by the end of the night, and my back aching, but it was worth it. There were 11 chilis entered for judging and Mamacita was 3rd place winner! There was a 60/40 Mystery theme this year, so people dressed from the 40's or the 60's. There was a lot of tie dye and vests and bandanas and peace signs. It was groovy man! There were a few dressed in the 40's. It was fun. Some of the chilis that were entered.
The 3rd place winner~Mamacita! She won a really nice engraved medal and a pepper printed bag holder and other pepper related items. My BFF's hubby and daughter were the 1st place winners! I wish I could show you a pic, but I took a bunch of blurry, yuck pictures. I haven't figured out the trick to outside pics in the dark yet. They were adorable though and I'm happy they won.
Here are the Host and Hostess Janet & Mike, they are my BFF's aunt and uncle, and they kind of adopted me after being around the family for 25 years. The afro woman is a neighbor, she was really dressed up for the 60's and it was fun to see her but my goodness, she must have been so hot wearing that afro all evening. Here's my BFF and me having fun.

Ok, I had to take a pain pill for my back, so i'm sleepy time. Bye for now.

A Very Merry Christmas!

Before the destruction ensued.

We put the tamales on the stove to steam while we opened gifts. Then I made a pot of Jingle Bell Java with the beans that my Coffee Swap pal Janice sent and that was good coffee. We also opened a bottle of champagne and put a sliced peach in each glass.

Here's Mamacita looking at her very own cookbook that I put together for her with a lot of her favorite recipes. This was the project I worked on because I had a deadline to get it in time for Christmas. Mamacita said it was the greatest present she ever got. I am so impressed with this company and it's what I've been looking for for Mom. Her copy has 57 of her recipes and each book you purchase you can add 100 recipes. The quality of the book is really nice. Check it out at Tastebook.
Do you think Gary got a lot of gifts?

Here's some of the aftermath and Gary got a beer making kit! He's making beer next weekend!

Tommy made himself comfortable on the wrappings.

I love this kind of mess! Santa was really generous!

And this was our Christmas dinner! Mamacita outdid herself again. We had the perfect prime rib, cooked to perfection, crisp on the outside and medium rare on the inside.

She also made us twice baked gorgonzola baked potatoes, corn and wheat rolls and a lovely Napa Valley Cuvee Cabernet Sauvignon.
We really missed Dad again this Christmas but we talked about him a lot and knew how happy he would be about the great Christmas that we had.
Christmas Eve we made our trip to my Aunt and Uncle's and we had a lot of fun. There were about 17 of us there and we had a Bad Santa Exchange that was fun and then some regular gift openings. Great food, I enjoyed seeing everyone and someone I hadn't seen in years, Annie. She is my cousin's ex-sil, long story but I hadn't seen her in about 15 years so it was great to catch up.
Then Christmas day was exactly what I had hoped for. I stayed in my jammies all day after gift opening. The whole Christmas morning was really special. Then we had our tamales for breakfast and then we played with our new toys. Santa was really nice to me. I got an ipod nano in a cool turquoise color and I just love it. I've been busy downloading podcasts and my new CD by Amy Winehouse, Frank. I also got a spa set, a wallet, Chanel No. 5 perfume, Lamb L Perfume by Gwen Stefani, 2 flannel nightgowns (flannel is my favorite!) and a cashmina robe! There was also a Meditations for Women who Knit Too Much by the Yarn Harlot, a Cat Encyclopedia, a Book all about Christmas including history, recipes, craft ideas, you name it. I got a really cool silver and turquoise ring that is just a work of art, I tried to take pics, but they didn't come out good, so I'll try again, you just have to see it, it's amazing. There was much more and I'm very blessed.
I couldn't help but be a little glad that all the hoopla is now over. But I'm already planning what I want to do for next year!

Goodies in the mail...

I have a favor to ask...I have a friend who's having a really hard time right now. She's married and has 3 little girls and she lost her job today. Long story, but she was not expecting this and is really having a hard time. Would you consider sending her a note of cheer? She reads this blog periodically and she hears about all you bloggers and how cool you are and she's even learning how to knit and may join us someday, but I would love for her to know that she is being thought of. If you want to send her a note, please do so at krueger_julie@hotmail.com and you can put in the subject line, From a Friend of Mitchypoo... thank you!
Now, let me show you what my sweet Secret Pal Sassy from Knit, Shower and Shave sent me! I'm sorry it took me so long to post pics but I had so much going on this weekend I couldn't take pics until tonight. But would you look at my goodies, she said she was going to spoil me and wowsy, she sure did. K, first of all, there are 2 things not included in this pic because I took them to work. One is an adorable green felted box, perfect size for me to put my business cards in and there is this adorable pink ribbon around the top, it is just adorable. The other thing is a really cute holiday ornament snowman and that greets my customers. I love it! Then in the pic there is 3 skeins of a beautiful silver gray bamboo yarn from Plymouth yarn. I've wanted to knit bamboo and now I have the opportunity. It's such a pretty color and I think I'll have to find the perfect scarf pattern that will show off the yarn. The beautiful yellow, orange, light pink and light green yarn is The Painted Sheep Superwash Merino in the Foot Prints color. It's soft and squishy and I can't wait to knit me a pair of socks out of it! The blue skein is Trekking XXL from Germany and again, it's going to make a nice pair of socks! and THEN there is 3 skeins of Mille Colori from Lang Yarns in this beautiful teal, blue, purple color. I wish you could feel it. Then there is this really cute bag that I will definitely be using to pack a project with me and an adorable red Peace coffee mug that I'll be using soon and a Sundried Tomato Dip that looks yummy, I may take it with us to my Aunt and Uncle's for Christmas Eve. There is a Knitting Notes journal that I'm going to log my projects when I start because I forget. Then there is a cute pink journal and a monogram journal. And...a cute tin of Newman's Own Organics Wintergreen Mints.
And you know the best part about Sassy? She not only is a great pal, generous, sweet.....but she's really nice and I feel like I've made a friend. We seem to have a lot of things in common. Thank you Sassy, you are the best!

So I came home tonight and had a package from Ada in the Netherlands. It is her offering from the Pay It Forward offer. She is a soapmaker and I am so impressed! They all smell so pretty and one of them has coffee in it.

And so here is some varied pics I've taken lately. This is the beautiful pink poinsettia that Mamacita found. I just love it and it matches our tree just perfectly!

Here's some kitty pics of Tom and Henry

I love experiencing every age. I rejoice in each passing year.

I recently posted about Sinterklaas and I got to thinking about family traditions around the holidays. I had heard from my old boss that she was putting the shoes by the door for her grandkids and she would fill them with candy but I didn't know it was Sinterklaas. Now i know.
So we have 2 of our traditions for Christmas taken care of. The first is that I've ordered our tamales! I'm not sure when this started, I think it was when I worked at a place in the 80's and I did a lot of company functions and ordering of food and one of the girls had a sister who made tamales and we ordered them for work but I also ordered them for our Christmas Eve. And then the tradition became that on Christmas morning after opening our presents, we would have breakfast and it included the left over tamales. And so now, it's not Christmas morning unless we have tamales.
Last year I forgot...someone, I think it was my customer actually, asked if we had tamales for Christmas and I said....oh crap! I forgot to order them. It was like Christmas Eve eve and here is Mitchypoo running around all of East Los Angeles looking for tamales. It was no small feat. Someone told me about this place they use to go to all the time, they had great tamales, so I went there to find it was gone, it was a hair salon now....went to another place, they didn't have any more available. I kid you not, I went to about 4 places before I found somewhere, not our favorite place that had them, and so I took what I could get.

So this year, that same customer came in to make a payment last week, and she asked again, did you get tamales? Um.....no....but it's almost 3 weeks before and I had time, so I went that night after picking up Gary. I told him that we were on a tamale quest and we drove to our favorite place and I was able to order with no problem! So we have a half dozen beef with red chili and a half dozen pork with green chili and a half dozen green chili and cheese! I pick them up on the 22nd because the 23rd and 24th were booked. We in LA take our tamales seriously now, don't we!

So we'll take them and put them in a steamer pot, steam them for about 20-30 minutes and then enjoy! We'll have eggs, maybe a frittata or an egg bake, but the highlight for us is the tamales.

Our 2nd tradition is to have champagne with peaches! Mamacita already got the champagne, we just have to remember to chill it and we always have a can of sliced peaches. We get up Christmas morning, turn on the Christmas Tunes on Sirius channel on TV, turn on the lights, make a really nice pot of coffee (meaning freshly ground beans), open the bubbly, put in the peach slices........and THEN....we can open our gifts! When I was married, I carried on those traditions too and the ex loved it and it made me feel nostalgic and also a little home sick. And I usually got looped because he didn't really like champagne and I'd end up drinking the bottle because it was just us 2. So then the tradition included a serious nap after opening presents! :)
How do you like our pink tree?

Oh, my, look at the pattern I ordered! Is it gorgeous or what!?

I love this so much! I have to make it and it'll only cost about $200 for all the yarn and shipping if I buy this exact yarn which I think I want to do. That would be all the yarn for the sweater, tam and scarf! I saw this on a blog that for the life of me I cannot find and desperately want to because she made it and it is GORGEOUS. If I find it I'll post a link for you to take a look.

When I searched for a pic this came up, I think it was based on this painting. It looks like the drapery detail was incorporated into the trim design. I love this pic too. Hmmm, think I have some research to do. So next year is going to involve some fair isle knitting for me!

My gift to you!

Mamacita made a yummy cookie today! We call them Monster Cookies and the recipe is from my Aunt Angie in Minnesota. Aren't they pretty?!

So my gift to you today is the recipe! And if you are a Weight Watcher, they are 4 points each! But worth it if you can fit it in.

Monster Cookies

POINTS® Value: 4 Servings: 74

Ingredients
6 large egg(s)
2 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter, with salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup unsalted butter, (OK to use salted butter)
2 cup sugar
2 cup unpacked brown sugar
1 Tbsp light corn syrup
4 tsp baking soda
9 cup Quaker Oats Quick Oats Cereal
1 bag M&M's Plain M&M's, Use Red & Green for the Holidays!
12 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions

In a very large bowl, mix all ingredients in the order given. Drop on ungreased cookie sheets with a 2" ice cream scoop. Take a flat bottom glass and flatten them down before baking. Bake for 11-12 minutes at 350. Do not over bake. Makes 6 dozen large cookies. They like to burn easily, so watch after 10 minutes and adjust accordingly. Remove from oven, let them sit for a couple minutes before removing them.

Looky what the mailman brought me today! This is my black walnut yarn and I think I'll have to rename it as the phantom yarn. Because in this pic you see beautiful shades of maroon and red, right? But in real life it is browns and blacks and I do not see any red, wine, maroon, etc. It's still really beautiful yarn and I am trying to control myself and not start another pair of socks. I have so many projects on the needles and I'm working on my own sock pattern that I'm hoping to submit to someone who is starting an online mag. I let you know the details as soon as I do. She asked if I'd contribute and I'm so honored and excited to do so. And I can't wait to show you my pattern! There's so many good things going on right now!And here's my cow Tom in his cat bed. The life of a cat. If I had a choice, I'd love to come back in life as a pampered cat. I mean really, you just eat and sleep all day!

Holiday Spirit!

I spent the day today listening to Holiday music and it's really put me in the spirit. Even though my boss is bah humbug and admits he's a grouch, he cannot take away my Spirit. And my Thursday Thirteen was about Sinterklaas and it seems everyone TT was about the holidays so I'm really feeling it.

Mamacita and I went shopping tonight and got some more things for our beautiful tree. We also got the kitties a Christmas hat and collar. Tom was not happy about it at all, but Henry was pretty good about it. I hope this remix plays for you so you can see our tree and some holiday cat pics!

I had an email today from my old boss in MN and she is starting a new business venture and she asked me to consider selling my scarves and knit wear thru her. How cool is that? The hardest part will be to figure out pricing. I just hate that part of it because I feel my work is worth something although I know you never get the full amount due and I want my family friend and myself to make money. So how do you do that? I have to work on it, figuring it out.

I think I maybe should start this post with..."My name is Michele and I am a yarnaholic". Go on....i hear you say it in your head, "Hi Michele". I broke my yarn diet and I succumbed to the temptation and bought some Claudia Handpainted yarn. The color is called black walnut and it looks like this:

I mean, can you blame me? Is it not gorgeous? And it was on sale to boot!

Oh, incase you haven't seen it yet, Knitty is out! I have to make Ice Queen, I just love that. I also like the slippery socks and do you know the designer is a high school student!

Thanksgiving 2007

We had a wonderful time at my Aunt and Uncle's house yesterday. The drive out there was not too bad. We hit traffic at one accident that looked like it just happened. A car was upside down on the freeway but it looked like the driver was out of the car and OK. I hope no one was hurt. We were in the traffic going to Las Vegas but it was OK. There were about 12 of us for dinner and what a feast we had! My uncle prepared a 24 lb. bird! It was huge! And very tasty. And I felt wonderful because I wasn't deprived, I had a very nice meal and even a small piece of pumpkin pie and I only used about 4 of my weekly allowance points!

I weighed in this a.m. since we are not having a meeting today and I was down 3.2 lbs! So I hit my 15 lb. mark and I'm just thrilled!

No shopping for me today, heck no, I hate those crowds. But I am going to decorate for Christmas today! I feel really festive! Already!

I'll leave you with some holiday pics! And I know this will sound horrible probably, but this was the first pic of me that I actually like and don't think I look fat! I'm happy!
