This is how I feel today...

I allow my body, mind, and emotions to relax.

I started Weight Watchers again at work. We will have a 12 week class and it's so convenient for me to just go to another part of the building to weigh in and then at noon I take my lunch over there and we have the meeting. I adore our Leader Daryl...he's motivating and caring and funny. I missed him but I'm so happy to start again. Good news, I for sure, according to WW scales did not gain over the holidays. Bad news, our home scale sucks! There is such a huge difference between the two, I'm saving up now for a really decent home scale. We had a great meeting discussing ways to handle the big Super Bowl Sunday and all the parties and get togethers. I don't have to worry, I'm not going to someones party so I have more control at home with my family.

Fighting a headache today too. Not a migraine, it's different but it's still related to my monthly I think. I'm taking stuff during PMS at the advice of my Dr. but it's still bothering me. It's not bad enough to go home, my boss told me I can if I want, but I have an appointment tonight after work so I'm trying to hang in there.

My social life is looking up, not going to say anything yet but it's good stuff! Perhaps Valentine's day will actually be celebrated this year!

Today I open up to my own true power.

Do you know your true power? I think I do but sometimes it's easy to forget. For me sometimes it's easier to see how someone treats me instead of how I allow them to treat me. Know what I mean? I'm in charge of me and who I have around me and the behavior that I'll accept. So today I know my own true power and will only allow goodness near me.

An update on the dead body....there was no dead body and that is why there was nothing in the paper about it. There was mention of the man missing and that they found his car. That was his car in our parking lot, but no sign of the man. Thursday we had a whole slew of cops here again and they had a bloodhound searching across the street. They also mentioned in the paper that a rock pit quarry was searched with divers over last weekend, but no sign of the man. The bad info came from our icky UPS man. Should have known.

This UPS man, oh, how I can't stand him. We here in CA usually have these really cute delivery men, but he is nothing but cute. It's not that he's short and not my cup of tea. The reason why is because when I first started he wasn't very friendly, he liked the other girl in the office I guess and it was probably because he doesn't like overweight people. He was talking to the boss and he was talking about his new wife and that she was pregnant but he warned her that if she got fat....and he just went on and on and I was just appalled. First because she married him after knowing what a jerk he is...and that he would treat her that way. Well guess what? She had the baby and she's now unemployed and...she's fat. She is having trouble taking off the baby weight. I take no pleasure in it, especially for her, but in the back of my mind I keep thinking that he's getting what he deserves. Karma can really suck.

I love getting packages in the mail and Friday's mail did not disappoint! I had this package sent all the way from Malaysia! How cool is that, I can say I've never before received anything from Malaysia.
Inside was a lovely package from Cheryl. Thank You! It includes a lovely pair of pink heart earrings that she made for me out of clay. They are just adorable. It also includes heart fabric, heart ribbon, heart envelopes and a cross stitch heart Christmas Noel ornament. I'm in a Swap-Bot exchange for Valentines where we send heart items to our pal and she was a little early. She also reminded me to send my items to my pal by the end of the month...deadlines! It was really cool receiving this. Thank you again!
Then I had a post office notice to pick up a package, which always make me nervous, but Mamacita picked it up for me because I had a suspicion it was my package from Germany....Wollmeise!!!
Look how pretty she packaged my coveted skein of yarn! And she included the cutest little sample skein of a colorway called Suzanne. I savored the package, looked at the detail and was so excited to open it, but also I waited to just experience it.
And here is my lovely Wollmeise in the Bob colorway!! All the way from Germany. It is just a really lovely skein of yarn and the colors are vibrant. I have to find just the perfect pattern to totally show off this yarn. So I think I get it now, what all the hoopla is about this yarn and the problem is....I need more!
Here's a cute Tom pic just to show you how terribly sweet he is.
And here is another yarn purchase I just made from Sock Pixie. I love this colorway called Chocolate Cherry. Don't you just want to eat it! It's lovely and I can't wait to make me a pair of socks. And here is what I've been working on since Thursday. This is a pair of socks I'm working on made out of the new Noro Kureyon Sock yarn. This is color S102 and it looks very different in the skein and has turned into my rainbow socks. I like the colors and I like how it gradually moves into another color but I'm still on the fence if I like this yarn. And I know I'm committing blasphemy because there are so many devotees of Noro but it's just not my favorite yarn. The best part is the colors and how they gradually move into the other. But the hand feel is not so great, although when I put the first finished sock on it feels soft and really nice, but it just isn't a soft and squishy yarn. And there are sections where it is thick and thin and I'm not sure I like that either. So I'm still going to finish this pair and see how it wears and launders. Don't hate me cuz I'm maybe not such a fan of Noro.
We're having a wonderful winter storm here in LA. We've got wind and rain, and in some parts not too far away we have SNOW, and we've had sleet, hail and even a friggin' tornado! We have 2 major travel routes that at one point were shut down because of the snow, very, very odd for us Angelenos. But I have to say, I love this weather. It makes me want to make soup, put on a pot of tea, knit and cuddle.
K, I have to go make some tea and put on a pot of soup... :)

I bless my work environment.

HEATH LEDGER DEAD
RIP
I am so sad about Heath Ledger's passing... I have always liked him a lot. As an actor and because he reminds me so much of my x-boyfriend from when I was in high school. I heard the news at lunch time and it was one of those where it took my breath away and I said, "No!..." like how could it possibly be true? So sad. And he has a 2 year old baby girl.

By loving others, I help improve the quality of their lives.

No good reason for me not blogging this weekend. I seem to be taking the weekends off without intending too. Perhaps that is a good thing so that I can actually accomplish something over the weekend.

Had a weird thing happen at work last Friday. When I was leaving work there was a group of good looking men in the parking lot, I looked around and here was a section of our parking lot sectioned off with yellow crime scene tape. I called my boss to tell him what was going on. There was maybe 5-8 police cars and some unmarked cars and a guy in a suit. There was definitely something weird going on. I thought about it Friday night and then I forgot about it. I asked my boss about it this morning and he heard that they found a car of a guy who is an ex-police officer and went missing from a local town, not this town, but he's been missing for 2-3 weeks and two of his cars are also missing and one of them turned up in our parking lot and had been there for about a week. Someone must have called about a car being parked. We are in a small industrial park and you tend to notice those things. I hadn't heard about this man missing, but something odd has happened I guess. Spooky that things like this go on all around you. You just never know. (***Edited before I posted. I just heard that they found the poor guys body in the back seat of that car. The Coroner's office was called out. How tragic. How scary.)

I was sure I was getting that cold finally Friday. I felt horrible, was sneezing and blowing all day, felt like I would lose my voice... and then Friday night it went away and I was fine all weekend. Frustrating. But I should not complain because of all the icky stuff going around and I'm doing good.

I did make a really good homemade chicken noodle soup Saturday in anticipation of feeling under the weather. I took a whole chicken, cut it up, seasoned with salt and pepper and browned it in a heavy duty dutch oven. Then in a stock pot I put in a chopped onion, about 3-4 carrots and 2 celery ribs. I added the chicken pieces and enough water to cover and brought that to a boil. Then I simmered covered for about 1 1/2 hours. I then removed the chicken, removed the vegetables and discarded. I added 3 carrots diced, 1 celery stalk diced and about a cup of fresh green beans. Shredded the chicken and discarded the skin and added 1/2 of the shredded chicken. Then I added 2 tsp. of Vegeta. I got this seasoning at a russian grocery store in MN and I forget to use it, but it is very flavorful. I would add more next time, 2 tsp. wasn't enough, but it did have a good natural tasting broth. I also added half a package of noodles. It hit the spot for me.

I also made lemon curd and a lemon tart with that lemon curd. We saw Barefoot Contessa making it this weekend and Mamacita asked me if I'd make a batch because we had a bunch of lemons to use up. I've made it before but not this recipe. It's pretty easy. You get the rind from about 3 lemons, put it in the food processor with sugar and pulse. In a mixer you cream butter and sugar and then add eggs, one at a time. Then you add fresh squeezed lemon juice. You take that custardy mixture and put it over low flame and stir until it thickens slightly. That's it. To make the lemon curd tart we took pre-packaged pie crust and put it in the bottom of a tart pan. I used both crusts, one of top of the other and formed it on the sides. Baked it for 5 minutes. Punctured the bottom and then baked another 5-10 minutes until browned. Cooled. Then add the lemon curd. Yum!

I had a piece of the lemon curd tart last night, but will have to watch it now. I'm down about 21 lbs. since I started Weight Watchers in September, and I love that I can still indulge but then I just watch myself and I watch my portions. Works for me.

Friday's Feast

Appetizer
What is your favorite beverage? Wine. I love the taste and the smell of it, learning about it. I love pairing with foods. Too bad you can't drink wine all day...

Soup
Name 3 things that are on your computer desk at home or work. My daily affirmation calendar, my radio and a blue plastic iguana toy.

Salad
On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being highest), how honest do you think you are? I'd give me an 8. I'm pretty honest, but I don't think it's necessary to be brutally honest sometimes.

Main Course
If you could change the name of one city in the world, what would you rename it and why? I can't think of a city I'd change... how about, isn't there a Smyrna GA? That's sounds like something icky. I'd change it to something cute like Serenity GA.

Dessert
What stresses you out? What calms you down? Conflict stresses me out. A cup of chamomile calms me down, or meditation and of course knitting!

I recognize my body as a wondrous machine, and I feel privileged to live in it.

I did it!.....I bought all the yarn for the Fair Rosamund pattern! I bought the original yarn in the original colors for the sweater, tam and scarf! I'm so excited...but how am I going to get any socks knitted with this beauty on the needles? How do people whip out these projects so fast, I don't get it. And I'm a fast knitter, but there is not enough time in the day. I see other knitters, people who have kids, and jobs and real lives and in it all they whip out a whole project in like days or a week. What am I missing? And oh, where am I going to hide the 41 skeins of yarn for my dear Fair Rosamund? Any suggestions? Because my Mamacita is going to have a fit when the box is delivered and she sees it's MORE YARN??!! And then the questions will come...what about my wrap you were knitting? What about the sweater kit I bought you 2 Christmas' ago and is half finished?......HUH?.... I'll say...I'm working on it. I just put it down for awhile. I need variety.....Do you not know me? Do you not know the habits of a yarnaholic ADD knitter? (like it's her fault!) Ya, I'll blame it on her because certainly she knows how I am.....I mean, she birthed me, she created this creative knitter.

I'm still working on the Firestarter socks, although I did not do even one stitch last night. Tired and stuck watching American Idol and I need to concentrate on this pattern, so maybe tonight I'll finish one of the pair.

Have 3 projects coming up that I can't wait to tell you about....very soon my lovelies!!

(Can you tell I feel good about life?! Even my love life is better right now!)

I forgive everything and everyone, including myself.

I really like today's affirmation. It's great to have it on a Monday too. Monday is a new beginning. Do you have things that come up in your brain, that you feel ashamed about, or still hurt you? I do and then I realize that it's over and done with and I don't have to let it affect me anymore. So today I forgive.

I was suppose to have a busy fun weekend, going to a trade show Saturday during the day and then a Ladies Night Out that evening, but everything was cancelled for various reasons so I ended up home doing a whole lot of nothing. Which is OK sometimes too. I had a nice nap Saturday afternoon and did some knitting and read until 2 a.m. Sunday we went to the mall, and had a bite to eat. Shopping wasn't so fun, because I'm not spending money right now. We went to Steve and Barry's, I wanted to see Sarah Jessica Parker's line Bitten. I saw it on Oprah and wanted to see the quality. I was a bit underwhelmed. They didn't have any of the suit jacket or pants and no coats, I wanted to see the black watch plaid jacket I saw on TV, but they had none. I'll try another store at another mall and go early so it isn't all picked over.

I ended up frogging my first attempt at the Firestarter socks, they called for a US2 and they were huge on me. Too long and too wide. So I redid them in a US1 and now I love them. I'm ready to turn the first heel. I really enjoy this pattern, can't wait to finish them and maybe knit the same pattern in a solid aqua Lorna's Laces yarn. I also have a neon green that I think would be lovely.

I started walking at lunch last week! It's not such a big deal, it's only been 15 or 20 minutes of walking but then it is a HUGE deal because the whole issue of exercising has been a challenge for me. It sometimes gives me anxiety, which isn't fun and I've had issues with it. Almost like a phobia. So I took a baby step and I succeeded. And I did not get anxiety. That's a huge plus. And I intend to go again today at lunch. It seems to work, I walk, come back and have my lunch and then I have energy in the afternoon and feel a sense of accomplishment. And another benefit is that I earn points on WW, even with 15 or 20 minutes of low intensity walking and that means I can eat more points, if I need to. A win win situation.

My find of the day: Jewelry made out of recycled knitting needles! Now, don't go buy all my stuff because I don't get paid until tomorrow.

What is your middle name? Would you change any of your names if you could? If so, what would you like to be called? My middle name is Denise. I was named after my Father, my first and middle name is his name backwards and feminized. I wouldn't change it but when I got divorced I almost changed my name to Holly Golightly, because I could and because she's my favorite character.

Soup
If you were a fashion designer, which fabrics, colors, and styles would you probably use the most? If I had the talent I'd use knits of course! And I'd use natural fibers mainly, all colors, vibrant jewel tones and it would be casual and elegant.

Salad
What is your least favorite chore, and why? Scrubbing the toilet. Ewwww

Main Course
What is something that really frightens you, and can you trace it back to an event in your life? I have a fear of wasps or hornets. I know it's because I am allergic and have been very sick by getting stung. Not stop breathing, epi pen sick, but huge welts, vomiting and hallucinating from a high temp sick and it was horrible. I will yell, scream, flee if I see one.

Dessert
Where are you sitting right now? Name 3 things you can see at this moment. I am sitting in the reclining red leather couch. My favorite sitting area, I can see my Mamacita, Henry the cat and the TV.

Thirteen Things about Mitchypoo
  1. I had to go to the Dr. today and found out that I did not gain ANY weight over the holidays!
  2. My last weigh in was December 14 and so I am very happy about not gaining. I was exactly the same. Well, actually to be technical I was .6 or .8 of a lb. less!
  3. But I do need to find a meeting because I'm not sure they are going to start again the 3rd week of January at work.
  4. I just created my 1st sock pattern and it may be published in an online knit magazine this month!
  5. I have a surprise for all my knitterly friends coming up very soon.... oh, the excitement! I wish I could tell you now...
  6. I will have some big changes coming up in February that I don't want to tell you about yet. Sorry to be so secretive. (But it doesn't matter because I'm convinced I'm the only one that reads this.)
  7. I've been sick and off work for 2 days and I didn't blog once until now.
  8. The beginning of this year 2008 so far has been wonderful. I've had a lot of things come together and things are moving in a positive direction for me.
  9. I've found that I love listening to podcasts! Ever since I got an ipod Nano from Mamacita. It's sooooo cool!
  10. I'm really afraid that Amy Winehouse is going to meet an early demise and I'm so sad because she's sooo talented. Poor thing.
  11. I wish the Writer's Strike would end. I feel bad for them and I'm getting tired of reruns.
  12. I like the new show Cashmere Mafia. It's like a TV version of Sex and the City. The theme music sounds strangely familiar. I don't know how they get away with it. But the characters are likable.
  13. How odd that I also like the perfume Cashmere Mist by Donna Karan. It's luxurious and subtle and I like how it smells later in the day, you move a certain way and it's still pleasant.

The gateways to wisdom and knowledge are always open to me.

What is the deal today? Is it Confession Monday or something??? Did someone forget to tell me? Or are people just trying to creep me out today by telling their stories from years ago, from the same blogs I see all the time but today has a distinctive change in the writing. There's a creepiness to it, a seedy side. Something that seems out of character. I've read about someone giving their boss a BJ and about a girl who let some guy mentally torture her for 4 years, a married man, and then, no not married, but otherwise engaged. Well sorry....I have no creepy stories to tell you today. But they ARE all over the place....so just keep going down your bloglines and you'll find them today....Creepy Monday!

Forgot to tell you about my cool find! My boss was doing some "cleaning" which means he throws crap out. Like a whole boatload of 3 ring binders! Nice ones, with sleeves on the front to add my own pages to. And a whole bunch of nice quality dividers, the thick preprinted ones that I can easily cover and tab for my purposes. I said to him, Can I have these?, I mean since he was throwing them out and he said, oh, I have a whole box of them. I was so excited about this because someday....yes it's true....someday I'm going to be organized! I'm going to have a book for hats patterns, and another for sock patterns, and one for lace....The possibilities are endless! See, it really doesn't take much to make this girl happy!

I've cast on the Firestarter Sock design by Yarnissima! and wow is it cool! But the graph pattern I must say is a little challenging until you realize the cool people at Ravelry who are having the same problem and they translated it a different way and voila....I get it!! It's really pretty, wait until you see.

My exciting Saturday night!

This is how i spent my time this Saturday afternoon! My best bud came over and we made vegetable purees. We both have the book Deceptively Delicious by Jessica Seinfeld and so we wanted to give it a go. I got almost 2 lbs. of carrots, a little over 4 lbs. each of cauliflower and broccoli and we washed, peeled, chopped, steamed and pureed. It only took us about 1 and a half hours. We ended up with 14.5 cups of puree, put into 1 cup servings. We divided the servings although I had her take most of it because she has 3 kids and a hubby. We are going to use it in the next couple days or we will freeze it. I cannot wait to use it. We both agreed that it didn't take a lot of work to do this and we love that we'll be getting more veggies and fruit if we keep this up.
You steam them until just tender and the colors are nice and vibrant. Aren't the colors pretty?
This is a Foliage hat that I made last night. I got some Bernat Alpaca at Michael's the other day and it's pretty nice yarn. 30% Alpaca and pretty soft. I enjoyed this quick knit.
I don't think I've ever posted a pic of our dog Rufus. Isn't he pretty?! He was my Dad's dog and he's an outside dog. He's actually happier outside. He's a lab and chow mix, has a spotted tongue and really is a good dog. But he was mistreated before we got him and he's always been very skittish. He has to learn to trust you and then he's the sweetest thing. Mamacita let him come in for a bit and she took this pic, but he's really not comfortable in the house anymore.

I got my hair done today. Cut and colored. If I won the lottery I would have her do my hair every couple days because it's so relaxing to me. When they wash your hair and then when they blow dry your hair, oh, I love it.

Thursday Thirteen #41

January 2 is the 1 Year Anniversary of us losing my sweet baby Simba.

Thirteen things about my beloved Simba that Mitchypoo misses.

1. She lived for 14.5 years. She was raised by me from 3 days old. She was like my baby.

2.She was like a little mother. She mothered this pink pig. It was her baby.

  1. 3. She was a good watch dog. Very protective of me. Protective but not mean.

4. This was our Christmas card one year, I love this pic because she looks like she's smiling and I believe she did smile.

    5. This is on our trek from MN to CA. She was really good in the car. She slept a lot, and loved to look outside when she was awake.

    6. She was so pretty and she loved the farm. She would just sit there after making her rounds to make sure everythin was OK. Her coat was always quite shiny.

    7. This was one of her last days. She would just sit on my lap like a baby and want me to hold her and she'd just stare at me and want comforting. Poor baby.

    8. She would sleep with me in bed, often with her head on the pillow. She dreamed a lot and would move her legs like she was running.

    9. Her last Christmas with us and the day before she got sick.

10.She was a hugger. She would squeeze you.

11. I miss her so...
12. She'll always be in my heart.
13. There will never be another like her.

I will always buy extra yarn. I will not try to tempt fate.

The title today comes from my reading today in At Knit's End, Meditations for Women who Knit Too Much by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee. I haven't received my affirmation calendar by Louise Hay because I gave my copy away and had to order another one. So for now I'll use these subjects for my Title.

Happy New Year to you!! I hope you all rang in the New Year in a pleasant way and I wish you he healthiest and blessed 2008! I went to Jul's for the evening and we had a fab time! We had a 4 bone prime rib, cooked to perfection by my Mamacita, Jul's famous garlic bread, broccoli and cauliflower salad, shrimp and crab rangoon, hot links in bbq sauce and a green salad. We also had a nice bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon with dinner and hors d'oeuvres and then we had champagne for the evening. I indulged but I still did OK. I spent the night and didn't have to worry about getting home sagely. We had fireworks about 10 p.m. which was fun. We didn't make it into the hot tub because the heater was on the fritz, but that was OK. It was fun.

I have been doing a group on Ravelry that has steadily grown and we're up to almost 1200 people! It's a great group and a lot of fun. I also started another group just recently called Sock Log. I got the idea because 2008 is the Year of the Sock for me. It's becoming a great group and filled with sock goodness. If you are on Ravelry, please come join us. If you are still waiting, please don't give up, Ravelry is worth the wait.

Today is the 1 yr. Anniversary of the passing of my beloved Simba. I still miss her. Hard to believe it's been a whole year without my love. You can read here about her if you like. What a special dog she was. I only hope she is happy in doggy heaven, chasing squirrels up trees, prancing in the snow and getting snow on her nose.
